Experience: Tom has worked and researched in the field of global education for almost 10 years. After graduating from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, in 2014, Tom first worked as an Experiential Learning Advisor at Bader College, the Queen’s University campus in the UK, before moving to the University of East London, UK, as Study Abroad Coordinator. He graduated from his Masters in Contemporary History from the University of Sussex, UK, in 2018, and has since worked in various roles supporting the global engagement strategy of Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. He recently led a qualitative research project designed to understand and address the specific barriers that prevent Queen’s students who are racialized from accessing and having well-supported experiences on global exchange.
Tom is currently undertaking a PhD part-time in the Faculty of Education at Queen’s, where his research focus is on understanding the influence of British imperialism on global curricula and the formation of national identities.
In his role at the ICACBR, Tom manages a major SSHRC-funded project involving seven different country case partners, as well as community engagement and other activities with the wider ICACBR community.
