This chapter discusses current best clinical practices with female sexual offenders using a case study approach. Numerous highly publicized cases of sexual abuse committed by females have resulted in an increased demand for information in this area. Unlike the study of male sexual offenders, research on female sexual offenders is inundated with difficulties, one of which is the small sample size. For example, it is estimated that female sexual offenders comprise only 5% of the entire adult sexual offender population. As a result, clinical studies involving large numbers of female sexual offenders are currently nonexistent. Despite these limitations, women convicted for sexual offenses, just like men, are in need of evidence-based assessment and treatment practices.
