Comparison of psychopathic and general offenders in cognitive behavioral therapy Psychotherapy May 2021 View Journal Publication Full Citation Valliant, P. M., Hawkins, T. J., & Pottier, D. C. (1998). Comparison of psychopathic and general offenders in cognitive behavioral therapy. Psychological reports, 82(3), 753-754. Abstract Short-term behavioral therapy was provided 28 psychopathic and 29 general offenders. Significant personality differences were found between groups of offenders and minimal changes in aggressiveness variables were observed over the course of treatment. Results suggest that psychopathic offenders, unlike general offenders, may hold aberrant styles of thinking which are not changed readily through short-term therapy.
