We have been highlighting the careers of Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program alumni. In this edition we focus on Rediet Getachew Ayele, who graduated from the MSc Occupational Therapy program at Queen's.
Rediet Ayele joined the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Gondar after completing her MSc in Occupational Therapy at Queen’s University, Canada. As a lecturer, she now teaches a variety of courses and supervises students during their clinical placements.
She previously served as the head of the department, and recalls that one of the proudest moments of her career was witnessing the graduation of Ethiopia’s first cohort of BSc Occupational Therapy students. Currently, she serve as the Occupational Therapy Coordinator for the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and as President of the Ethiopian Association of Occupational Therapists (EAOT).
In addition to her academic responsibilities, Rediet has actively organized and participated in numerous programs to raise awareness about Occupational Therapy. These include workshops, World Occupational Therapy Day celebrations in 2024 and 2025, job fairs, parent and teacher training sessions, as well as radio and television programs highlighting the benefits of Occupational Therapy in Ethiopia.
Rediet remains deeply committed to advancing and promoting the profession across the country.
