Administered the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) and structured interviews to 6 violent and nonviolent offenders (aged 20-57 yrs) incarcerated at a minimum security correctional camp in Wisconsin before and after Ss participated in a limited group therapy intervention led by an experienced psychologist volunteer. All Ss were within 3-6 mo of release, and all had indicated some concern regarding return to their families and the community and had exhibited signs of anxiety and adjustment problems since incarceration. The 10-session intervention was designed to prepare prisoners for release. Analysis of the interview data and questionnaire responses indicated that the therapy reduced the Ss' suspicion, distrust, and anxiety levels; increased their feelings of self-acceptance and self-worth; and provided an opportunity for positive growth and increased maturity.
