Discusses a psychological intervention program for remand inmates (i.e., those sent back for further detention pending trial). A needs assessment of 40 remand inmates revealed problems with feelings of depression and inadequate life skills. A work-group intervention was designed, comprised of the following modules: job skills, anxiety management, social skills, and alternatives to crime, alcohol, and drugs. An evaluation study of 30 work-group participants revealed that most had positive views of the program. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
