Incarcerated women experience high rates of sexual victimization and mental illness. The current study evaluated outcomes from an eight-session exposure-based group treatment with incarcerated women who had experienced sexual victimization. A total of 52 women participated in nine separate groups over a 2-year period. Participants reported statistically significant reductions in posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, and generalized anxiety disorder symptoms from pretreatment to posttreatment (large effect sizes; all eta2 > .20). Among participants with pretreatment and posttreatment data (n2 = 36), approximately 70% showed clinical significant reductions and/or were considered recovered (e.g., no longer above the clinical cutoff) on at least one of the three diagnostic measures.
