Hypnotherapy with age regression was incorporated into a cognitive therapeutic approach with prison inmates having a documented history of anger. The age regression was used to establish a first significant event that could be postulated as the cause of the current angry feelings. This was followed by a catharsis of the feelings for the original event, and the event was then reoriented while under hypnosis. Results indicate a decrease in acting-out behaviors within the prison setting, and a concomitant decrease in self-reports of angry feelings.
