Dr. Trothen is jointly appointed to the School of Religion. Dr. Trothen is an interdisciplinary ethicist. Jointly appointed to the School of Religion and the School of Rehabilitation Therapy, her areas of research and teaching include Artificial Intelligence, human enhancement technologies, enhancements in sport, moral distress, spiritual health, and aging.
As a professor of ethics, Dr. Trothen is the author or editor of numerous articles, chapters, and ten books. Religion and the Technological Future: An Introduction to Biohacking, A.I., and Transhumanism (2021), co-authored with Dr. Calvin Mercer, won a prestigious award from the International Society for Science and Religion (ISSR). She is a Fellow of the ISSR.
Dr. Trothen is also a certified Specialist and Supervisor-Educator, Emeritus, Canadian Association for Spiritual Care.
