R., & Holiman, M. (1984). A comparative evaluation of group treatments in an adult correctional facility. Journal of Group Psychotherapy, Psychodrama & Sociometry. Abstract Compared psychodrama, anger therapy, values clarification, decision making, or no group treatment over 8 wks for 66 male prisoners (mean age 22.5 yrs) in a medium-security prison. Ss were evaluated using the Correctional Institutions Environmental Scale, the Hopkins Symptom Checklist-Revised Form, and the Group Environment Scale. Results support the overall benefit of psychodrama and other group treatments. Psychodrama facilitated significant improvement in resident attitudes toward the institution and a reduction in distressing symptomatology; each group had differential positive impact on resident behavior. It is concluded that group treatment can provide a valuable service to residents in a correctional institution. (15 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved)
