POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the Manager, Allied Health the Physiotherapist assesses patients, plans and carries out individually designed treatment programs to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical deconditioning in patients. Current assignment is Southampton with coverage at the Owen Sound Site.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Patient Care
- Assess patients’ physical abilities through evaluative procedures such as functional abilities tests
- Assess and manage neurological, musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory complication of patients including specific patient positioning, suctioning, mobilization, including ambulation, strengthening and balance exercises, passive range of motion exercises and airway clearance techniques
- Establish treatment goals with the patient based on physical diagnoses
- Plan and implement programs of physiotherapy
- Maintain clinical and statistical records and confer with other health care professionals
- Develop and implement health promotion programs for patients, staff and the community
- May conduct research in physiotherapy
- May provide consulting or educational services
- May provide physiotherapy to patients at all the corporate sites
- Communication/Customer Service
- Communicate with referring physician and other healthcare professionals regarding patients’ problems, needs and progress.
- Develops the plan of care and activities for the patient using a consultative collaborative approach with the health care team
- Evaluates and communicates the patient’s response and outcomes using a collaborative and consultative approach.
- Assigns tasks to Physiotherapist Assistant and supervises their performance.
- Participates in multidisciplinary rounds
- Participates in the clinical supervision of students.
- Acts as an physiotherapy expert resource for staff, students and other health care providers
- Identifies and responds to key internal and/or external customer’s needs, expectations and level of satisfaction
- Produces concise, clear, objective and accurate written documentation
- Continuous Improvement
- Identifies and monitors of quality indicators for key departmental processes
- Seeks opportunities for involvement in practice based research and engage in knowledge translation through evidence-based practice and implementing best-practices.
- Represents PT perspective in corporate committees and/or workgroups
- Maintains accuracy of workload and clinical statistics
- Participates in ongoing professional development/continuing education

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Successful completion of a University Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent
- Current Registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario or eligibility
- Excellent professional judgment, conflict resolution and interpersonal communication skills with patients, families, team members, students and community partners.
- Competence in the practice of evidence-based Physiotherapy and inter professional care, with experience in the application of practice models and outcome measures.
- Knowledge and experience utilizing Teach Back and other Principles of Adult Learning.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, sound judgment, analytical thinking and initiative
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
- Available for a 7-day rotation and ability to provide multi-site coverage as required
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
- Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at GBHS through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
