Reports on a combined treatment and research project conducted with a seriously criminal population in Swedish prisons using a solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) approach. The impact of SFBT on recidivism and seriousness of recidivistic offenses of 59 inmates at 12 and 16 mo after their release was studied. Results indicate recidivism was significantly lower and less serious among inmates receiving SFBT. 12 mo after release, 47% of the experimental group had not relapsed into new crime while in the control group only 24% were crime free. Twice as many inmates in the control group relapsed into drug offenses and committed a greater number of offenses. A case study of a 34-yr-old male inmate is included to illustrate the therapeutic techniques of SFBT. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
