Assessed the attitude changes occurring in 2 28-member groups of female inmates (aged 15-36 yrs) to determine whether 2 different 16-hr marathon counseling sessions produced consistent changes. A posttest-only control group design using a semantic differential determined the outcome; however, all instruments were administered the day after the session and at 1-mo follow-up. Results indicate that marathon counseling seems to positively alter the attitudes of illicit drug users when facilitated by competent therapists in nonthreatening ways.
