Adult male sex offenders often carry with them the legacy and sequelae of childhood sexual victimization. While the relationship between early abuse and later offending behavior is a complex and non-linear one, it seems important that adult sex offender-specific treatment address this dialectical dimension of a perpetrator's clinical presentation. The purpose of this project is two-fold: first, to identify the specialized treatment needs of adult sex offenders with histories of childhood sexual trauma, and second, to present a conceptualization for a group treatment model designed to augment adult cognitive-behavioral sex offender-specific treatment and facilitate recovery from the negative effects of childhood sexual abuse. The reconciliation of the victim/perpetrator dichotomy will serve as a central tenet of the treatment model.
