(1992). Rapists, incest offenders, and child molesters in treatment: Cognitive and social skills training. International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, 36(3), 221-230. Abstract Provided cognitive-behavioral therapy and social skills training to 45 male sex offenders (rapists, incest offenders, and child molesters) incarcerated at a maximum security jail. Weekly 2-hr sessions occurred over a 5-wk program. The sessions were educational in nature and designed to teach methods of restructuring faulty thinking and improving social skills. 16 males who had been incarcerated for assault-related charges served as controls. Of the sex offenders, rapists showed an increase in self-esteem over the duration of the program. Anxiety levels of rapists and molesters significantly decreased over the 5 wks. MMPI code profiles indicated nonsignificant differences between the offender groups. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
